I'd like to clear up what I think might be a few misconceptions about us (hosted by your one and only Blade Hunter), and if you have any questions I could help you with, please feel free to call us, or call me at home (565-5943). Part One, entitled BLADE, THIS IS YOUR LIFE! I think I should probably point out why Mr./Mrs Hunter isn't permitted the use of our system any more. Bladie-boy's first logon was as a female user, named DEANNA. Second logon (while the first was active, still) was as BIANCA, same as before. Third, and most notable, was ENDORA. ENDORA seemed to be his/her favorite personality; it stuck. Among other things, ENDORA was noted for (supposedly): -- Being a young widow. Husband died in a plane crash. VERY healthy settle- ment. -- Having a bottomless `scrip of "mood" medication. Prozac, and the like. -- Being a lesbian practitioner of Witchcraft. -- Multiple attempted suicides. -- In female guise, seducing younger male users into "hotchatting" to earn credits. Folks, I do NOT make this stuff up. We had a little problem, specifically, with Endora regarding his/her account information. At TCE!, we require either a valid address or phone number so that we can contact a user if need be. ENDORA (Your own Blade Hunter) was pretty cagey about it! After a voice verify failed, he/she managed to snow in on a fake PO Box number. Until he/she got caught, anyway. Second problem: ENDORA managed to convince us that she should run herd over not one, but TWO forums (message conferences). Worse: one of them was a nationwide forum; and it's topic? WITCHCRAFT, the occult, etc. While "Blade" may be able to pass himself/herself off as knowledgeable, it doesn't seem reasonable that we'd permit this with someone whom we didn't expect would be legit. In the end, after being "compromised", we were stuck trying to explain to the rest of the MBBS units on WorldLink how we cranked a forum that was run by a forumop who was bogus in all aspects. ENDORA, among other things, was most noted for inciting random arguments (much like here, it would seem); his/her "fallback" was always the "at least it generates message traffic" line. Well, sure, I guess it does; if you want that sorta message traffic. But the impression I always got was that it was strictly a cheap excuse for a failed attempt at ....*something*. Not sure what. ENDORA/Blade Hunter was eventually compromised. We feel that we suffered a great deal of embarrassment over the whole thing in regard to the WorldLink setup, but we "ate" that. We also burned ENDORA out of the system; current Policy is to permit no entry. Here's the neat part! "Blade" came back. Sent a really nice apology, and pretty much asked to let bygones be bygones. Hey, you get credit for that one, dude. But sorry, some things are hard to forgive. Yep, we burnt him out AGAIN. Check your logback; did BLADE HUNTER sorta become active back last Spring or so? That's about when we ran him/her off the second time. Now that the background is established, I'll go on to the second part of this... First, you might notice that I haven't addressed any of these messages to you in particular; I heard a nasty rumour that you're in the habit of deleting messages addressed to you that you find "disagreeable". Is this true? Being a rumour, I know it might be wrong... I wonder if it's even POSSIBLE? PART TWO: Statement of Intent. Over at "that Other BBS", we've always sorta admired USA. It's established and has good history and rep. We try to model ourselves after a list of succesful BBS's, and USA is on the list. Indeed, I've discussed the marketing aspects with Jeff the one time we met (if he remembers). I suppose what I'm trying to say is: the relationship between TCE! and the USA-BBS, while not exactly a "prominent" or obvious one, is more of a good natured rivalry. There is no competition in the BBS field, due simply to the aspect that Users are not limited to only calling one place. In fact, I'd say that we have a fair number of "collateral" users between us (without naming names). I guess you don't see it that way, "Techno" Blade. I can, however, see one interesting difference: I've never seen anyone "over there" drop a bum rap on USA. Indeed, USA comes highly recommended from most of us! However, from what I've seen (ok, CAP files, I confess; they're worthless and don't mean a whole lot) you seem to take some perverse joy in running us down. Well, we hate to leave a customer with a bad attitude; but for all of the problems you caused, we don't worry too much about it. Stay tuned. In the context of your piece (too lazy to quote it all), you're imposing your own morality on everyone. Well, that's not so bad; except for the fact that the very things you're dictating to are easily available via TV (specifically, drug use, sexual implications) and movies. I remind you that the law regarding the content of "PUBLIC" bbs' (as you so proudly put in all capitals in your original message) is pretty much straightforward, and in this case, not violated. For you to try and dictate your own sense of right in a place where you have no authority to do so serves to only demonstrate your obvious pompousness. "...These things destroy lives..." DUH. But it just goes along with the not-so-old adage: guns don't kill people, people kill people. I'm inclined to believe that removing the visual source is not going to do a whole lot to prevent anything. If the reader can't "handle it", why is he here? We're sitting on a Pentium now, and have all the hardware for 20 lines at 28.8k each; only eight working, until Ma Bell hooks us up.
