For those of you having trouble reading this, let me familiarize you with the rules of the New Order: (1) Absolutely NO carriage returns. EVER. I realize I am breaking this rule, but then again I am from at least two orders back... (2) The proper way to separate two sentences is with three to five periods and NO spaces, *not* with a period followed by two spaces. I don't care what the _Writer's Hotline Handbook_ says, do as you're told! (3) There IS no proper way to separate paragraphs or to create pauses, as your entire post should be one paragraph (or more accurately one long run-on sentence). Anyone who writes in separate paragraphs, even if their post is over six pages long, is not a member of the New Order. (4) If you *must* capitalize a word from time to time (say to give a proper name or to start a new phrase in your run-on), try to do so sparingly and keep it to a minimum. Slight deviations will be allowed but anything approaching proper grammar will NOT be tolerated. (5) The only punctuation mark allowed is the period, and only then in groups of three or more to separate phrases. I realize there are lots of pretty-looking symbols above the numbers on your keyboard and over there by the ENTER key, but these should only be used to simulate line noise before you drop carrier to avoid an embarassing question. Some fringe elements have begun using commas instead of periods to separate sentences (and also begun, interspersing them, randomly in the, middle of, sentences). This is NOT kosher. (6) If it's worth spelling, it's worth spelling WRONG. And if the first four letters of a word are enough to give people the idea, don't bother with the rest of it. (7) The following sets of words are considered synonyms: a: "there", "their", and "they're" b: "its" and "it's" c: "your", "yer", and "your" d: "affect" and "effect" e: any two prepositions (i.e. "with" and "for") (8) It is okay to quote either the ENTIRE message (no matter HOW long) you are responding to, or to quote NONE of it, but nothing in between. In the former case be sure and restate as much as possible of the message you quote, unless you just want to say "Yeah.". In the latter case assume that people reading your message will have memorized the contents of the forum by message number and can easily recall the post you are responding to, saving you the trouble of letting anyone know just what the hell you are talking about. (9) The use of QWK-mail readers will only be tolerated if it enables you to write longer and more numerous posts using the rules above. You should not bother to change the default taglines that come with the QWK reader, everyone will think you are "cool" if you use the original ones. I hope this clear things up for everybody. ]:-)
